Nurses Corner for West McDowell Middle and Virtual Academy

Welcome to the Nurses Corner.

On this site, you will be able to find out what is going on related to health at my schools. To the right are forms you may need throughout the year for health concerns with your child. Please feel free to download these and send to me as conditions change.

Since West and Virtual are in the same building, I am there most days but I would call first if planning to visit me.

My normal office hours are 7:45-3:15 daily.

The 2021-22 School year is almost over.  Things to remember before you leave for the summer

  • If you child takes medications at school during the year, don't forget to pick up a new medication authorization form to get completed over the summer.
  • If you child HAS medications at school now you need to come and pick them up by the last day of school.  Medications left after June 9th will be disposed of per the county protocol.
  • 7th graders will need 2 additional immunizations for next year.  If your child has not had their Tdap and MCV shots, they will need to try to get them over the summer.  You only have 30 days after school starts to have these completed.  After that, your child will be excluded from school as unexcused until these are complete.
  • 12th Graders also must receive their 2nd MCV and the same rules apply to them about exclusion if not completed within the first 30 days.   I encourage you to get these done over the summer as things could happen after school starts back.

Remember, if your child's health condition changes over the summer, please contact the school nurse at 652-3390 or email at diana.mcentire@mcdowell.k12.nc.us to let me know.

Health Forms can be found below.  Please print off as needed and return to the School Nurse Office.

Don't forget to get the proper Medication Authorization form completed for your child to have medications at school and on school activities. Have them come by the nurse office to pick one up if needed.  If you can't get to their physician's office soon, I can fax it to them to get it signed with your signature on the back of the form. This can include emergency medication such as Benadryl, Inhalers or Epi-pens or daily medications for health concerns including ADHD.

Does your child have a 504 or IEP plan at school?  If they do, I will be glad to come to their yearly meeting. Just send me an email of the date and time, and I will be there.  Diana.McEntire@mcdowell.k12.nc.us
