Keeping Your Little Panther Healthy!!

My name is Autumn Bartlett, I am the school nurse for West Marion Elementary School. I have been a Registered Nurse for 22 years with the last 8 years spent serving West Marion Elementary. I look forward to providing care for your students this school year and in the future!

Nurse’s Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00 am - 3:30 pm)

Planned Screenings:

Dental: Identified dental problems will be screened by the school nurse as needed and referrals/parent contact will be made as appropriate.

Vision: 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades (will also take teacher/parent referrals on any student)

Education: Hygiene and Puberty education

Students with Special Health Conditions:

If your child has a health condition that may require emergency care such as severe allergic reactions, diabetes, asthma, or seizures it is very important that you notify the school nurse so that an Emergency Action Plan is completed as soon as possible.

Special Diet Request:

For your child to receive a special diet (food at breakfast or lunch), a physician’s order is required. Forms are available upon request from the school nurse.

Medication Policy:

If your child will need medication during the school day (both prescription or over the counter) your child’s doctor needs to complete a green medication administration form. You may request this form in the office. A new form must be filled out each new school year. Children may not carry medications to school. Medications must be in the original bottle properly labeled with the student’s name. The school can not give the first dose of a medication. Phone permission is not allowed.

For example, if your child needs medication for a headache and a green medication administration form is not on file and medication is not at the school; a parent must come to the school to administer the medication.

Contagious Disease:

To help prevent the spread of infectious disease: students need to be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school and antibiotics need to be given for 24 hours before returning to school. Please remember to practice frequent hand washing at home and school.

As you are sending in classroom supplies with your child, please know that any donations of items such as Kleenex, hand sanitizer, sandwich baggies, band-aids (all sizes, shapes), cotton balls, q-tips, or Clorox wipes would be greatly appreciated by both your child and the nurse. These items are used on a daily basis to help care for your child.

Please feel free to call me or come by the school if you have any concerns about your child’s health. I look forward to working with you and your child this year! I am looking forward to a healthy school year at West Marion Elementary School!

Sincerely,

Autumn Bartlett, BSN, RN, NCSN
