School Improvement Plan

Q: What is the School Improvement Team?

A:  School Improvement Teams are required by North Carolina law to develop school improvement plans. The team is comprised of the principal of each school, instructional personnel, instructional support personnel, and teacher assistants assigned to the school building, and parents of children enrolled in the school. The SIT plan represents goals and strategies for addressing improvement of student performance and includes components that focus on high student performance; safe, orderly and caring schools; quality teachers, administrators and staff; strong family, community and business support; and effective and efficient operations.

The General Assembly of North Carolina views parental involvement as a critical component of school success and positive student achievement.  It is the intent of NC that parents, along with teachers, have a substantial role in developing school improvement plans.  [NC General Statutes 115C-105.27]. McDowell County Schools continue to combine the best resources of the children, school personnel, parents, and community in order to provide an environment suitable for intellectual, social, physical, emotional, and moral growth of each child.
